I have kept quiet for too long. I have felt weak, belittled, and scared – for too long. I refuse to keep my mouth shut about this any longer. I refuse to pretend that I’m okay. I refuse to be quiet when all I want to do is shout. So I’m speaking up, because so many before me didn’t, and so many after me won’t. “You’re the new student? This whole time I thought you were much older,” he tells me when we meet. We are in the entry of a large hotel. There are students…
Baby Lamotta is due September 28th, 2017! Today is 4/6/17 which means I’m 15 weeks! Baby is the size of a box of crayons. 🙂 Baby is a… princess or superhero! We find out at our gender reveal party in exactly 3 weeks! Doctor’s appointment this week? Yep! It was with a different midwife, who was not quite as colorful (let’s stick to the crayon theme) as the last, but still very nice. She let Jude help with the doppler and then let him listen to his own heartbeat too. Baby’s heartbeat…
Some years are better than others. That’s life, right? Well, 2016 was one of the worst of my life. I can say this in full confidence now that there’s a day and a half left of it. 2016, you’re a damn mutha fucker if I ever saw one, the biggest of bitches. Thinking about 2016 gives me similar feelings of falling into quicksand (which still seems like it should be a much bigger issue in life since all the television I watched as a child had someone dying in quicksand) or peeling the stringy…
My mom passed away eight days ago. I was traveling already when she passed. I actually had gotten engaged the day prior, and my dad likes to reassure me that seeing my engagement pictures was the last big smile she produced. She had waited until I left and boarded my plane for Europe, holding on at least that long, telling me, “I’ll do my best,” prior to me leaving, before she took a terrible turn. I knew those words were meant to make me feel okay about leaving. A month before she had told me she promised to hang…
It’s taken twenty six long years. When I was eighteen, I would have never posted a picture of myself without make up on my blog. Not even when I was twenty three. It’s taken me a very long time to be okay with what I look like and really grow into myself. While I love make up because it is fun and sometimes even artistic, we’ve become a society that is so fixed on perfect. Long lashes, plump lips, small waist, big butt and boobs, bleached hair. These are signs of a perfect woman…
The thing I love most about writing is it gives me the opportunity to express myself in ways I can never say aloud. While some people may have opinions of how they interpret said writing, they don’t know what the truth is. I received a comment on my last post, one that got me thinking. There are always people on the outside looking in. Always people who have one side and think they know the truth. While I don’t blame them for not understanding, they can’t fully understand without both sides. They see what…
Wow! I can’t believe it’s been two months since I’ve updated my blog! Things have been so very hectic in my personal life (going through a divorce with a kid can definitely take up a lot of space in your mind!) so I’ve been neglecting my writing a little. I did end up finishing Camp NaNoWriMo in July. I’m still working on editing the first draft of my NA novel since I kind of put it on hold to do other things. But I plan to get back to it…
Hey there, fine folks! Here’s a quick update on my querying with my YA novel: Well, I’ve heard back from three agents who had fulls and one who had the first ten pages (partial req). One passed on full. Although, I don’t believe she actually read it since it was so fast and form-ish. She didn’t have pages to begin with so I bet she only started it. The partial req also passed. HOWEVER, I did get a revise & resubmit from one agent who said she didn’t believe…
I just hacked off about 6000 words of my NA novel. I kinda want to jump off a cliff. I was more than 1/4 done. I was over 25,000 words. And now, I’m under 20,000. I want to cry. But I did what I needed to do to fix a major plot problem. I got back on track. I’m headed in the right direction. Am I the first person who has to LOWER their words written for the day at Camp NaNoWriMo? 🙁 I doubt it. Well, I hope at least. So. Depressed. SIGH…
“Writing a book is a horrible, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven on by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand.” —George Orwell…
