Camp NaNoWriMo & Query/Submission Progress Update :)

Hey there, fine folks!  Here’s a quick update on my querying with my YA novel: Well, I’ve heard back from three agents who had fulls and one who had the first ten pages (partial req). One passed on full. Although, I don’t believe she actually read it since it was so fast and form-ish. She didn’t have pages to begin with so I bet she only started it. The partial req also passed. HOWEVER, I did get a revise & resubmit from one agent who said she didn’t believe…

TAKE THAT, NOVEL!

I just hacked off about 6000 words of my NA novel. I kinda want to jump off a cliff. I was more than 1/4 done. I was over 25,000 words.  And now, I’m under 20,000.  I want to cry. But I did what I needed to do to fix a major plot problem. I got back on track. I’m headed in the right direction. Am I the first person who has to LOWER their words written for the day at Camp NaNoWriMo? 🙁 I doubt it. Well, I hope at least.  So. Depressed.   SIGH…

“Writing a book…

“Writing a book is a horrible, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven on by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand.” —George Orwell…

So many great things!

May has been a great month. My writing is getting published in FOUR places. What?!?!?! It feels unreal. But I’m still submitting different stories so hopefully the list will continue to grow. The third piece I’m having published is a short piece called “Hell is a Strange Place” and will be published in June 2013. Stay tuned for a link! In other writing news, I’ve just submitted my screenplay to the Austin Film Festival. I know it’s a long shot but I just had to do it. You never know…

Let it take flight

My novel is a bird. Yep, you heard me correct. A bird. My novel has taken flight and is out in the world. Never before has anyone ever read any of it. Well, that isn’t true entirely. My fiction writing professor in college read the first two chapters but now that it has a different beginning, she technically has only read the second and that was years ago. Much has changed since then. I finished my first round of editing tonight and offered to share my work with any of my friends who would brutally critique it. So…

Enter: Po.

My mind is full of stories. I can’t stop. I’m supposed to be editing my novel. While I have started the beginning over, I haven’t touched the rest in days. It sits in a pink binder gathering dust while I rework the first pages, send myself voice memos of lines that I must add throughout, and write.  What am I writing? A trilogy.  I.Can’t.Stop.Writing. This is a problem.  I created a new world in my head. One set in the future. (Yes, dystopian society) I can’t get…

Beginnings

A quick word on beginnings. As a writer, I know that it is my job to hook the reader immediately. If I don’t, they will put the book down and move on to something else, something better. Now that I’m in the editing process of my novel, I could not hate beginnings any more than I possibly do now. Or maybe I just hate mine.  But I digress… The beginning of my novel took place after a one night stand. Yep, Stella is mighty classy (not). But reading it after having a lot of space…

Seventy Three Thousand Eight Hundred Sixty Eight Words

My first draft of my novel is COMPLETE. (!!!!!!!!!) I cannot believe I’ve actually finished this novel! It has been a crazy process and I can’t wait to start editing and sending out query letters to agents! I already have my query done & edited and have gotten the opinion of a few people and they all love it so hopefully an agent will too!  I feel like I should pop open a bottle of champagne in celebration. It’s taken three and a half years and countless tiring hours but at 73,868 words, it…

Fun Fact #1

My novel takes place over the course of five months, beginning with the start of Estella’s senior year and ending at Midnight on New Years Eve…

Breakthrough

I pushed through. I didn’t used to be able to do this. Once I was in a rut, it stayed that way- for a really, really, really long time. But today, I pushed through. Estella spoke and I listened.  Word count? Over Sixty Six Thousand Words. I imagine a little less than ten thousand words and I’ll be done. Maybe even a lot less. I’m in the final chapters.  And… GO…
