I’m so excited! Tomorrow, it is time to fly to Scotland with my boyfriend, Jordan. This has been a long awaited trip and I’m so excited to finally be going back to Europe. I’ll be spending the first week with Jordan, traveling to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cork, Galway, Dublin and a few places between. We are both really excited to have a week of vacation just the two of us exploring Scotland and Ireland. Next Saturday I’ll meet up with my graduate school friends and Jordan leaves that Monday. I’ll be…
One of my favorite things about traveling is my ordinary (or sometimes not so ordinary) interactions with the locals. When I traveled to Europe for thirty days back in the summer of 2010, I had a few of these moments that are still very much alive in my mind. While these memories are meaningful to me, they aren’t necessarily significant to the every day pers on. The reason they are to me is because, for a moment, even though there was a huge language barrier between us, I was able to have a conversation with someone who lived…
In honor of Mother’s Day, I asked several bloggers and business owners to share their most significant travel moments with their children, or their mom, with me. As a mom myself, travel is very important to me, and a big part of my relationship with my son. I loved reading each of their stories and seeing how travel factored into their relationships as well. I hope you enjoy these moments as much as I did! Rash & Chalukya – Go Beyond Bounds “We had visited the tulip gardens of Morges in Switzerland last May. Our…
This is the story of Stephen. Stephen and I crossed paths in Vienna. I hope our paths cross again someday. 🙂 I get home from Bratislava with my writer friends and Stephen and I, a guy stationed in Spain with the Navy but in Vienna by himself for the weekend (from Tinder), make a plan to meet in front of McDonalds on Stephensplatz in about an hour. I change, freshen up my make up since I’d been sweating in Bratislava all day, and head out to meet him. I decide to walk, since it’s only two stops…
What do all of these have in common? Well, they either went on a date with me or.. . um… kissed me. The German you now know the story of, but there were other boys before him, and between the times I saw him. While Chris was unavailable due to flying, I continued to Tinder. It was more for company than anything else, and to meet new people. Luckily, I got some pretty great stories out of it. I will first start with the Australian, who, as unmemorable as he is, warrants a full post just for the simple reason…
I don’t want to end this story because it was much to beautiful to close the book. But, I have to be a realist sometime. I can’t always be the dreamer. I fell in love with Chris the way that only movies dictate. I didn’t believe it was possible to care so much about a human being that fast. But it is. And even though now we slowly stopped speaking. Even though it may have meant way less to him. I will never look back on my time in Vienna and think that…
The next time I saw Chris, he met up with Rachel and I at 1516 (an expat bar off stephensplatz) after Rachel and I had one too many drinks. To be honest, I don’t think either of us remember getting there. I do, however, remember how amazing those potato wedges with cheese and ranch were. Or maybe I was just drunk and excited about the prospect of ranch in Europe. But I digress… We sit at a small table and talk and laugh and Chris eats some food. When it’s time to leave, Chris…
I’ve been reluctant to write about the German. Part of me felt like as soon as I did, then that was it. I’d just be writing a memory. And I didn’t want him to be a memory for everyone to read about. I wanted him to be real. I wanted those days to stay fresh in my head. I wanted them to be a comfort when I was having the constant Vienna withdrawals I’d been having lately. But I can’t keep him in my head forever. He’s…
Tomorrow is the big day!! Tomorrow I will board three separate planes to get to a final destination of BUDAPEST! There, I will meet up with Kryss and we will have the fun task of getting to our hotel and then exploring the city! I’m using so many exclamation points because I’m SO SO SO SO excited. Sorry, ya’ll. The schedule goes a little something like this: Tomorrow/Early Friday: Fly to DC –> Fly to Frankfurt –> Fly to Budapest Friday: Explore Budapest Saturday: Morning in Budapest, take a bus in…
There are many things that I’ve taken for granted in life. Being able to travel is never one of them. Being able to hop on a plane and visit with a good friend and his brother for 36 hours was such a perfect way to spend a weekend. We started our Saturday with bottomless mimosas for two hours. Then we spent the day at Govenors Ball festival. I even ran into a friend from high school. It had been almost ten years since I’ve seen Addie. I’m such a lucky girl! Something I’…
